Racism is an obscenity, a negation of our humanity. It is a painful form of violence which is dehumanising and degrading.
Martin Luther King Jr.
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.
None of us alone can save the nation or the world. But each of us can make a positive difference if we commit ourselves to do so.
Racism is a white problem. It was constructed and created by white people and the ultimate responsibility lies with white people. For too long we’ve looked at it as if it were someone else’s problem, as if it was created in a vacuum.
…’Black Lives Matter’ simply refers to the notion that there’s a specific vulnerability for African Americans that needs to be addressed. It’s not meant to suggest that other lives don’t matter. It’s to suggest that other folks aren’t experiencing this particular vulnerability.
The beauty of anti-racism is that you don’t have to pretend to be free of racism to be an anti-racist. Anti-racism is the commitment to fight racism wherever you find it, including in yourself. And it’s the only way forward.
To bring about change, you must not be afraid to take the first step. We will fail when we fail to try.
Lester B. Pearson
Misunderstanding arising from ignorance breeds fear, and fear remains the greatest enemy of peace.
